(AP photo)OROVILLE, California -- Wildfires barrelled across the baking landscape of the western US and Canada, destroying homes and forcing thousands of residents to flee. One of the fires grew to 31 sq km, traversing a mountain range and heading south toward coastal Goleta. Crews were also using an air attack against another blaze about 80km north that exploded in size to 97 sq km. The fire has not spread since it broke out Wednesday and was still less than one-third sq km on Sunday. The three biggest fires, which have grown in size to range from 23 to 49 sq km, had forced thousands of people to flee.
